Interview with Vladimir

This week we decided to do a small interview with our new team member.

Do you enjoy working as a Rails developer?

Of course. I’m pretty sure every Rails developer does.

This is your first real job. How do you find it so far?

I really love it. It was a bit overwhelming at the beginning, since I had to learn A LOT of new stuff, but you guys were really great with your instructions and patience.

What have you, so far, enjoyed the most while working as a Rails developer?

I found BDD really fun and benefitial at the same time, though, for me, it was a bit hard to get into the whole BDD mindset since I didn’t have any prior real world application development experience.

And the least?

The debugging in UNIX terminal…Before starting to work here I wasn’t even aware that you could debug a web app, apart from “testing” it in a browser. But now, I can’t even imagine developing without using BDD tools and ruby-debug.

What was the most difficult part of your learning process?

By far the hardest thing for me to learn was writing RSpec controller specs.

How would you describe Rails to someone who is interested in starting to work with it?

With Rails you achieve a lot by writing an amazingly little amount code. Rails owes this to the power of Ruby. That’s the reason why I suggest learning Ruby before starting with Rails.

How do you feel when you come to work?

It’s a great feeling having to wake up in the morning and not think “Great…I have to go to work again”, doesn’t feel like job at all, more like a team sport, the work conditions are great and the atmosphere is awesome.
